FOX’s X-Men series The Gifted has now released a few bits of new footage in a new promo video. What’s new? Well, the new video includes a closer look at Sentinel Services new drones. The little arachnid styled machines are more mobile than previous Sentinels in other X-men series, and are better at tracking and catching up with their prey (see screenshot below).
The Gifted sits in an odd space in the timeline, something star Stephen Moyer recently addressed to CTV.
“In terms of timeline, because obviously we just had Logan which was a lot further forward and obviously Legion which is a lot further back. So we definitely slot into a timeline, but as of yet, we’re not allied. I think they have given themselves a lot of leeway in order to be able to go places, but we’ve enough story within our universe to propel us forward without having to do that.”
This new trailer doesn’t really show us much more than we’ve seen before, but it does focus on the drones more. Watch it below.

Our heroes are seemingly cornered by Jace Turner (Coby Bell), an agent tasked with hunting down mutants for the government that is presumably linked to Reed’s old job. Notice the company name on his vest though: “Sentinel Services.” In the comics and movies, the Sentinels are of course giant towering robots deployed by a variety of groups designed to track, hunt down and occasionally kill mutants. They’re a long-standing staple of the X-Men canon, and we’ve known for a while that they would be showing up in The Gifted, “though very different from what we’ve seen before” according to producer Lauren Shuler Donner…
Other new footage includes a look at the impressive powers of Polaris, who disables a handful of police cars, though it isn’t clear why. Eclipse’s powers are also seen in the footage, and a portal created by soon to be fan favorite Blink also makes an appearance.
It looks like the show’s sentinels will be spindly, robot drones that can both skitter around like spiders and roll towards their victims before latching on to them… or at least attempt to, before Eclipse blasts one away.
As you can see in the footage, they also have the ability to clasp onto individuals, and it takes the combined might of the group to get one of them off.
We’re very much anticipating The Gifted Premiere on October 2 at P.M. on FOX.
