Season 6 DVD & Blu-Ray
The True Blood Season 6 DVD and Blu-Ray will be out on June 3, 2014.
Greenwood Plantation Home is a Greek-Revival beauty that is nestled just off the beaten path in Louisiana’s English plantation country. This privately-owned property will be the set for the interior of the Barkley House in the movie, The Big Valley, in which Stephen Moyer will be playing the role of Jared. You can read about the exterior location for the film in Part I.
Originally built in 1830 by William R. Barrow, it was a major producer of cotton with over 3,000 acres, along with easy access to the steamboats of the Mississippi River. In 1960, the main house burned down, with only the chimneys and columns remaining. Since then, it has been lovingly restored, the architecture guided from old photos of the place. It is currently a well-reputed B&B in the area.
When I visited, the film company had already begun to re-decorate the interior for the movie. A new horizontal-plank door, similar to the one at Rosedown, had been hung.
New wall paper, and dark furnishings with carvings have been added. Most of the owner’s furniture has been removed for filming. The colors are very dark and masculine-looking, totally unlike the airy antebellum pastels in which the house used to be decorated.

Almost the entire downstairs will be used, and three rooms upstairs will serve as the “Judge’s chambers”, and the “hotel”.
This is the view of the foyer coming in the doorway, before and after remodeling. “Before” pics are from www.greenwoodplantation.com. The elaborate spiral staircase was re-built four times by the owner to “get it right”.
Dining room, before and after.
Front room/parlor, before and after.
As you go up the stairs, you can immediately see the set construction for the “Judge’s chambers”. The first photo is the “before” picture. I also included photos of the set props.
Two of the upstairs bedrooms will serve as the “hotel.”
These rooms will not be used for filming, so they are unaltered. I included them so you could see the original style of the home.
Wrap-around porch. Does this look familiar? It was in the movie, The North and South.
The owner prefers a more natural look to the landscaping. The house has the typical “oak allee” that channels the breeze up to the house. The trees are about 180 years old.
Using the locations of Rosedown and Greenwood Plantation Homes, the Barkley House should be very impressive. I thoroughly enjoyed my visits, even if it was 97 degrees outside!

Another great write-up, Lisa! The pics are amazing. I especially loved the pic of the spiral staircase. The home is just gorgeous through and through.
Very interesting and enjoyable article, especially the wonderful pictures! Thanks for posting, and thanks for the field work you did in nearly 100 degree heat!
Great part 2 to your "Big Valley" location report and loved all the comparison photos and the pictures of the estate grounds. Both estates are breathtaking!
Wow, amazing photos! Lovely old plantation home. Cant wait till filming starts. Thank you for the photos and continuing article.
I did some checking out about the house used for the Barkley's. It's Greenwood Plantation, which was in "North & South"~but it wasn't the house that Patrick Swayze's character, Orry Main & his Family lived in~that was Boone Hall Plantation, which has been in the Soap Opera "Day's of Our Lives" and the film "the Notebook" Greenwood Plantation, was used as the house for David Carradine's "Justin LaMotte" and where Madeline was later tortured. BooneHall, was used for "Mont Royal". North & South is my favourite miniseries~and I know the house.
This house wasn't the "house where the Main's lived" it was the house that David Carraidine's character lived!!! And where Madeline lived with Justin LaMotte and was tortured by him in.
Gorgeous pictures and a wonderful write up. Lisa, thanks for being an intrepid reporter and location scout and an A #1 photographer.
